Confessions of a Mango
Ruby Emmerson has always felt like the dumb twin.
Her brother, Bryce, excels in school. Ruby…not so much. Diagnosed with dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia, she struggles with reading, writing, and math. And starting sixth grade at a new, ultra-competitive charter school— without her best friend— doesn’t make things any easier.
When she fails her first test, Ruby fears she’ll flunk out of Benton Academy and drag Bryce down with her. Frustrated and fed up with feeling different, she vents anonymously online, describing herself as an imposter: a mango among lovebirds.
But then something unexpected happens: her post goes viral. And Ruby realizes two things. First, she isn’t as alone as she once thought. And second, she’s single-handedly started a school-wide movement.
“A beautiful and important book.” –Colby Sharp
